2 days till canonization: Our Lady

In life and in death [I am] Totus Tuus through Mary Immaculate.

Pope John Paul II (Testament of the Holy Father)

Did you know?
Pope John Paul II performed the Fatima consecration twice, as the first one did not fulfill the conditions put out by Our Lady because the bishops of the world were not in union with the consecration. These consecrations, started by Pope Pius XII and continued by Pope John Paul II, became a tradition so that each year, the pope consecrates the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary through the Act of Entrustment. Pope John Paul II often said that Our Lady of Fatima saved his life during the assassination attempt.

In Pope John Paul II’s personal notes, he wrote that Mary was a model of faith for the pastors in her “availability to receive God’s Word and to fulfill It: This availability goes together with being ‘poor in spirit.’” He also wrote an encyclical regarding Mary and her important role in God’s plan, “It is a fact that when ‘the fullness of time’ was definitively drawing near-the saving advent of Emmanuel- she who was from eternity destined to be his Mother already existed on earth. The fact that she ‘preceded’ the coming of Christ is reflected every year in the liturgy of Advent. Therefore, if to that ancient historical expectation of the Savior we compare these years which are bringing us closer to the end of the second Millennium after Christ and to the beginning of the third, it becomes fully comprehensible that in this present period we wish to turn in a special way to her, the one who in the ‘night’ of the Advent expectation began to shine like a true ‘Morning Star’ (Stella Matutina). For just as this star, together with the ‘dawn,’ precedes the rising of the sun, so Mary from the time of her Immaculate Conception preceded the coming of the Savior, the rising of the ‘Sun of Justice’ in the history of the human race.” (Redemptoris Mater)
Blessed Jesus entrusted us to you in the supreme moment of His bloody sacrifice. We are certain of your intervention. On September 8th the Church celebrated the anniversary of your most happy birth, saluting you as the beginning of the salvation of the world and the heavenly promise of an increase of peace.

Pope John XXIII (The Way of Peace)

Did you know?
Pope John XXIII, like his predecessors, urged the faithful to pray the rosary especially during October. He fondly said that reciting the rosary over the years made it dearer to him, “…the rosary is a very commendable form of prayer and meditation. In saying it we weave a mystic garland of Ave Maria’s, Pater Noster’s, and Gloria Patri’s. And as we recite these vocal prayers, we meditate upon the principal mysteries of our religion; the Incarnation of Jesus Christ and the Redemption of the human race are proposed, one event after another, for our consideration.” (Grata Recordatio)
