Love is our Mission: The Family Fully Alive

Love is our Mission: The Family Fully AliveLove is our Mission: The Family Fully Alive

Family is a theme that the Church emphasizes this year because of two reasons:

  • The 8th World Meeting of Families will be held September 22-27, 2015, in Philadelphia. Held every three years, the World Meeting of Families is the world’s largest Catholic gathering of families. Each World Meeting of Families has a theme that energizes and enlivens the event while adding great depth of meaning to our understanding of families. The theme of the World Meeting of Families – Philadelphia 2015 is “Love Is Our Mission: The Family Fully Alive,” emphasizing the impact of the love and life of families on our society. The closing events will take place on September 26 and 27 when Pope Francis visits Philadelphia. These events include the Festival of Families, to be held on the evening of September 26, and a Papal Mass to be held during the afternoon of September 27.
  • The 14th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops will take place this year from October 4 to 25. The theme will be “The vocation and mission of the family in the Church and in the contemporary world”. Pope Francis invited all of us to pray for the synod.
“Are We There Yet?” Full EpisodeMom and dad will bring four children between the ages of 4 and 11 all the way from the west to the east coast of the States to participate in a large scale event of the Catholic Church in North America – a papal mass attended by hundreds and thousands of people. How is this possible? Let’s hear what they say!

Pope Francis’ Catechesis on Family

Pope Francis on Love is our mission

Since December 2014, Pope Francis has been speaking on the theme of family in his weekly General Audience addresses. You are encouraged to revisit his catechesis on the family.

Prayer for the Synod of Bishops

Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
in you we contemplate the splendour of true love, to you we turn with trust.
Holy Family of Nazareth,
grant that our families too may be places of communion and prayer, authentic schools of the Gospel and small domestic Churches.
Holy Family of Nazareth,
may families never again experience violence, rejection and division: May all who have been hurt or scandalized find ready comfort and healing.
Holy Family of Nazareth,
may the approaching Synod of Bishops make us more mindful of the sacredness and inviolability of the family, and its beauty in God’s plan.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
graciously hear our prayer. Amen.
