Jesus died on the cross. The way He died looked like a failure. He did not get down from the cross to prove Himself to be the Son of God. In fact, He said to His disciples in advance: "The prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me, but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me." (John 14:30-31) Jesus showed His identity as the Son of God through absolute obedience to God the Father.
Through disobedience, Adam and Eve severed their relationship with God by succumbing to the devil's temptation. Through obedience, Jesus has reconciled us back to God. Jesus' humility cancelled our pride and the sins we committed. Do we care about how others see us? Think about Jesus on the cross.
Let us prepare ourselves to renew our baptismal promises.
