The Spirit of Morning Star – The Story of Escola Stella Matutina (2)

Escola Stella Matutina (Morning Star School), a school for girls from underprivileged families in Macau, was started by Sr Rozalia Ellerik, FMM. The school ran from 1953 to 1975. For over forty years since then, students still have not forgotten their school. They hold alumni reunions and, together with teachers and nuns that taught them, reminisce about the good old days at the school. The spirit of the school is one that is based on the love of Christ.

Morning Star – The Story of Escola Stella Matutina (1)

In the 1950s, a Polish nun, Sr Rozalia Ellerik, FMM, came to Macau to start a school for girls from underprivileged families. Throughout the years, Escola Stella Matutina (Morning Star School) survived entirely on donations solicited by Sr. Rozalia. From humble beginnings, using straw sheds as classrooms, converting pig pens into dormitories, and relying on food aids, Escola Stella Matutina gradually transformed into a school with proper facilities, enjoying a good reputation.

Teaching in Macau (2)

On this week's "Love and Life", we invited Sabina, a teacher from Macau, to continue to share with us her teaching experiences in Macau. She talks about how through her work in education she was able to bring God's message to the students and some of the challenges she has faced during this time. Although many students were not familiar with the Catholic faith, through various religious education and volunteer service, they were able to gradually understand the correct moral values, with some even entering the Church. Finally, she shared about her illness and how she was able to be more thankful as a result, encouraging us to trust in God's plan for us, to respond to His call and leave everything into His hands.

Teaching in Macau

On this week's "Love and Life", we invited Sabina, a teacher in Macau, to share with us her teaching experiences in Macau. She talks about her unique vocation from God and how she needs to teach her students as a role model. Her main focus is to help them develop a plan for their lives, using different methods to learn about the world and themselves, to prepare for their future, as well as reflect on how they can use their abilities to contribute to society. Finally, she also shares on how the religious activities at school can bring the Gospel to those students who do not yet know God.
