On the 13th Sunday of Ordinary Time (Year C), Fr. Anthony Ho continues to describe to us the history of the early Church. This time, Fr. Ho speaks on St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross. St. John of the Cross was born in Fontiveros, near Ávila. John had engaged in a variety of occupations. From 1559 to 1563, he studied at a Jesuit school. When he was 20 years old, he entered the Carmelite, and soon went to Salamanca studying theology. By St Teresa of Avila persuasion, he decided to join the Discalced Carmelites,

Spiritual Talk – 12th Sunday of Ordinary Time (Year C)

On the 12th Sunday of Ordinary Time (Year C), Fr. Anthony Ho continues to describe to us the history of the early Church. This time, Fr. Ho speaks on St. Teresa of Avila who was born in Sixteenth Century Spain. She entered the Order of the Carmelites at the age of twenty, and at the age of forty-three, decided to reform the order. At the age of forty-seven she founded the first Discalced Carmelite convent, spending her life in simplicity and prayer. During her life, Teresa personally founded fifteen convents, and reformed the friars with St. John of the Cross. Teresa loved to share her experiences on prayer with others through her writings. "The Way of Perfection", the "Interior Castle", and her "Life" are part of the patrimony of the Church’s spirituality.

On the 28th Sunday of Ordinary Time (Year B), Fr. Anthony Ho explain to us the story of Jesus and the rich young man Gospel of Mark. The power of God's Word cannot be measured, so we must not be like the young man as he rejects Jesus' invitation. We must make the necessary sacrifices if we are to truly follow Him. Finally, Fr. Anthony also speaks about the lives of St. Teresa of Avila and Pope St. John the 23rd.

This Sunday is the Fourth Sunday of Ordinary Time (Year B), and Fr. Anthony Ho explains to us the story of Jesus exorcising demons in the synagogue from the Gospel of Mark. Demons are fallen angels who have rejected God as a result of envy. Teresa of Avila teaches us to use different methods in defending ourselves from the attacks and temptations of the devil.
