Pope Francis: Look for Jesus, meet Jesus: this is the great treasure

(CNA/EWTN News) On Sunday July 27 Pope Francis stressed the priceless value of encountering Jesus, noting that Jesus’ parables speak of those who are willing to trade everything for the Kingdom of God. “He who knows Jesus, who encounters him personally, remains fascinated and attracted by so much kindness, so much truth, so much beauty, […]

Parable of the New and Old Treasure

Jesus said to the disciples: “The Kingdom of heaven is like a net thrown into the sea, which collects fish of every kind. When it is full they haul it ashore and sit down to put what is good into buckets. What is bad they throw away. Thus it will be at the end of […]

Why Kingdom of God brings about difference of value?

Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Last Sunday Jesus began His parables on the Kingdom of Heaven by using common and insignificant things (mustard seed and yeast) to contrast its small beginning with its great ending. Today He depicts the Kingdom of Heaven as a treasure and a pearl. I would like to reflect on what […]

Pope Francis: Christians are called to imitate the patience of God

(CNA/EWTN News) In his weekly Sunday Angelus address on July 20, Pope Francis mourned the fleeing of the last Christians from the Iraqi city of Mosul, who were told by ISIS forces last week to either convert, pay the Jizya tax or leave. “They are persecuted; our brothers are persecuted, they are driven out, they […]

“Lord, you are good and forgiving!”

Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time “Lord, you are good and forgiving!” Captured in the antiphon of the Responsorial Psalm is the heart of the message of this Sunday’s Mass readings – an amazing message that punctuates every action taken by God in the history of salvation, a wonderful message that gives us the real reason […]

The Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus

(本文以英文為準) As the best mirrors represents an image of the face opposite to it, so also is the just judgment of God adapted to our dispositions. Where the rich man because he did not pity the poor as Lazarus lay at his gate, is not heard when he needs mercy for himself. All […]

The Seed that Grows by Itself

(本文以英文為準) From the parable of the sower, we heard about the three seeds which perished in various ways, and the one which was saved; in which Jesus also shows three differences, according to the proportion of faith and practice. Here however, He puts forth a parable concerning only those who are saved. Therefore […]

Parable of the Sower

From Flickr © madison.murphy (本文以英文為準) Jesus comes to us because we could not enter heaven, our sins fencing us out from the entrance. And for what purpose? To destroy the ground teeming with thorns? To take vengeance upon the unfaithful stewards? No; but to till and tend it, and to sow the word […]

Parable of the Lost Sheep

True justice feels compassion, false justice feels scorn. Although the just rightly repel sinners, one act is followed by the swelling of pride, while the other from the zeal for discipline. The Grain of Wheat that Falls to the Ground

In today’s Gospel, Jesus told a parable of the grain of wheat. In order for a grain of wheat to produce fruits, it must fall to the ground and die. Jesus told this parable about the nature of seeds to help people understand. Seeds cannot produce new life by themselves. They must […]

Be Prepared

Commentaries on the daily readings by Sacred Space, In today’s Gospel, Jesus said to His disciples that they should gird their loins and light their lamps, and be like servants who await their master’s return, so that they will be ready to open immediately when he comes. Unexplainable Love

Luke 15:1-32 In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus told three parables. In the Parable of the Lost Sheep, He spoke of a shepherd who would leave ninety-nine sheep to search for one who is lost. In the Parable of the Lost Coin, He spoke of a woman who loses a […]

Parable of the Ten Virgins

(路21:36) In the gospel according to Matthew, Jesus used three parables to warn us one thing: be prepared for the second coming of the Lord. In the parable of the ten virgins, the bridegroom is Jesus Christ, the ten virgins waiting for bridegroom is the church, and entering into the wedding feast […]

The Parable of the Sower

Matthew 13:1-9 The Gospel of Matthew contains seven parables related to the Kingdom of Heaven. In today’s Gospel, the Parable of the Sower is the first one. In Jesus’ parable, the sower is obviously Himself. If the sower is human, it makes sense that he cannot control where the seed […]

The Compassionate Samaritan

Luke 10:25-37 Jesus is the Good Samaritan described in His parable. While we’re still trapped, wounded and half-dead in sin, He came and picked us up. With His sacraments He continues to heal and strengthen us, and guide us into His everlasting kingdom. New Wine, New Wineskin

Matthew 9:14-17 People who asked Jesus why His disciples do not fast, are actually nitpicking and challenging His way of leading His disciples, while implying the Pharisees and themselves who fast often are more righteous. However, Jesus did not get upset, and used the parable of the bridegroom […]
