Small Town, Big Mission: Chapel of St. Joseph’s Seminary and St. Lazarus’ Church of Macau

Similar to the Ruins of St. Paul's, the Chapel of St. Joseph's Seminary has been a cradle of missionary formation for over two centuries. St. Lazarus' Church, nicknamed Lepers Temple, used to be the chapel of a lepers' hospice, which developed into a community of Chinese Catholics that put faith and love into practice. Both churches give rise to numerous true stories of evangelization and charity work, reflecting the spectrum of Catholicism from contemplation to action, knowledge to charity.

She learnt about HK Catholic Lay Missionary Association through a friend and joined the formation programme for those who want to be lay missionaries. She went to Kenya. She joined the local missionary there to work with the students at a high school run by Jesuits. Also she made home visits in the slum. She found that although the people there are poor but they live a happy and simple life with dignity. Globe Tour – Israel

Mak went to Israel on a pilgrimage led by Fr. Lionel Wu. The group visited many places.  At first, he did not listen to the Father, and bought many souvenirs and took many pictures. One night at their hotel, loud explosions were heard in the distance. Mak was too scared to sleep and began pondering: if God took my life away tonight, I would lose all my photos and souvenirs. She abstained from photos and souvenirs the next day, and was finally able to pause and reflect. The pilgrimage also made Scripture alive for Mak: she had a special experience while hearing the Parable of the Sower on the Mount of the Beatitudes and walking on the very soil on which Jesus once walked two thousand years ago. The pilgrimage changed Mak’s life, but more importantly, she was able to bring that fire of faith back to her home and her workplace.
