The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ - Luke 9:11-17

The crowd listened to Jesus' teaching in a deserted place. It was close to evening. The disciples suggested to Jesus that He should dismiss the crowd so that they could go to look for lodging and provisions. They would never have thought that Jesus would say to them: "Give them some food yourselves." With the five loaves and two fish that the disciple had, how could they possibly feed thousands of people? Jesus asked them to sit down in groups of about fifty. The disciples followed. Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, blessed over them, broke them. The disciples set them before the crowd. They all ate and were satsified.

Before the miracle, the disciples knew nothing about Jesus' plan. But they believed Him, and obeyed Him. Jesus established the Sacrament of Eucharist. With our eyes, we could only see bread and wine, but by the words Jesus spoke at the Last Supper, and the power bestowed upon the priest at the consecration by the Holy Spirit, we believe in the body and blood of Christ. As St. Thomas Aquinas said: "Faith will tell us Christ is present,: When our human senses fail".
