In the seminary, St. John Bosco and his good friend Louis Comollo encouraged and corrected each other. But Comollo had a weak constitution and passed away one night. At that moment, a fellow seminarian received a vision of Comollo telling him, “I have just passed away.” The other seminarians doubted until they discovered that Comollo had passed away 20 minutes prior. John had made an agreement before with Comollo: whoever died first would notify the other about their situation. The night after Comollo’s funeral, John heard his friend’s voice calling: “Bosco! Bosco! Bosco! I have already been saved!” He saw a bright light and the sound of thunder, then all was calm. All the seminarians saw the light and heard the voice too, so they were amazed when they heard John recount his vision and his agreement with Comollo. However, the vision so frightened John that he fell ill and only recovered after his mother brought him food. Later, he told others not to make similar agreements; since contact with the supernatural world was too terrifying for humans, relying on faith alone sufficed.
