On the 22nd Sunday of Ordinary Time (Year A), Fr. Anthony Ho explains to us the story of Jesus’ prophecy of his own Passion in the Gospel of Matthew. The fear of suffering restricts our spiritual freedom, and this fear is the devil’s temptation that targets our human weaknesses. Jesus says that we must all bear our own crosses to follow him. This reading is a stark contrast to last week’s reading, with Jesus first describing Peter as the founding rock of His Church but now describing him as an impeding obstacle. Fr. Anthony also expounds on the meaning of the Cross as Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice for us in his mighty love.
