From Light to More Light: God’s Plan and You

by Amy Law

Inspired by the work of Dr. Sofia Cavalletti (1917-2011), a Hebrew scripture scholar and Gianna Gobbi (1919-2002), a student of Maria Montessori, this book “From Light to More Light, God’s Plan and You!” highlights just some of their work with young children in Rome. The children’s hands-on work with tangible materials helps to nurture their encounter with God and calls them to prayer.

Archbishop Richard Gagnon, President of Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops has endorsed this book and given his Imprimatur.

Archbishop Michael Miller, Archdiocese of Vancouver, BC affirms, “It is not only dogmatically sound but also thoroughly charming for adults, and I can imagine most effective for young children.”

“Forty years ago, when I came across a way of supporting faith formation in children through contemplative engagement with hands-on materials. This program, called the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, was developed by Sofia Cavalletti and Gianna Gobbi in Rome more than sixty years ago. It has slowly and quietly spread around the world, to 37 countries.”

“This book was inspired by a presentation on Creation that had been an experimental material offered to 3-6 year-old children in the founding Rome atrium, for the Catechesis of The Good Shepherd, over fifty years ago. It was later removed from the Level I atrium canon of presentations and materials when Sofia Cavalletti and Gianna Gobbi realized that a reflection on Creation in the atrium is best saved for the child of 6-9, along with the moral exhortations of Jesus, which we call the “maxims,” and which are also found in this book.

Still, the book tells a very true and beautiful story that can serve the “domestic church”, especially in a family with multiple aged children.”

As parents, all of us have had hopes and plans for our children. These have often been in our minds and hearts even before our children were born. God’s plan for each of us and all of our children began before Creation.

In the beginning, God has had a plan and since forever, you have been in his plan.

Before you were born, God worked and lovingly created for billions and billions and billions of years. God had everything God needed to make and create everything.

God created light and God created you! Read how to live in his growing light and help bring this message to your children.
