Fr. Denis Kong: A young people’s shepherd

On this week’s “Love and Life”, we invited Rev. Denis Kong to share with us the story of his vocational discernment. The young Fr. Kong was influenced by his teachers in elementary school, inspiring him to want to be come a teacher. His relationships with the Salesian priests and brothers, in addition to seeing how joyful they were in their interactions with the students eventually led him to walk the road of religious life. During the way he encountered many challenges and worries, but through the discernment process he was able to see and follow God's guidance, finally becoming a member of the Salesian family. Lastly, Fr. Kong also provided some discernment guidelines for young people, hoping to help them recognise God's calling for them.

Saying Yes to God

She describes how on her journey of religious discernment, she was able to compose a song about responding to God's invitation, and how through this song she was able to receive the love of God, ultimately being deeply touched by His love.

On this week’s “Love and Life”, we invited Po Yee to share with us on her composition of the song "Jesus You Are". On her journey of religious discernment, she realized she had to answer the question "Who is Jesus to you?" She found that words alone could not fully express her thoughts and feelings, so she wrote a song to express her relationship with Jesus.

St. Andrew

每年的11月30日是宗徒聖安德肋的慶日,他是西滿伯多祿的兄弟,原是一個漁夫。在今天的福音中,當他和伯多祿一聽見耶穌的召叫,便放下網,跟隨了祂,後來被耶穌揀選為十二宗徒的一個。 根據若望福音,安德肋先是若翰洗者的門徒,聽了若翰的話而跟隨了耶穌,然後他去對弟弟西滿說:「我們找到了默西亞。」──意即基督。(若1:40-41) 從這兩個簡單的事蹟,我們可以看見安德肋是一個有信德、坐言起行的人。因為他無論是基於若翰洗者的話,還是因為耶穌親自的召叫,他都願意相信、並立刻作出行動。漁網是漁夫必備的工具,所以「立刻捨下網,跟隨了祂」這個動作,證明安德肋願意放下一切,包括生活的倚靠,毅然跟隨耶穌,即使當時可能他根本不明白耶穌說「我要使你們成為漁人的漁夫」這句話,是甚麼意思。 安德肋也具福音傳播者的特質,值得我們學習。因為在若望福音中,當他跟隨了耶穌後,他便去找自己的弟弟西滿,介紹耶穌給他,然後領他到耶穌跟前。正如在致羅馬人的書信中,聖保祿宗徒說:「信仰是出於報道,報道是出於基督的命令。」(羅10:17) 如果沒有人像安德肋或其他宗徒一樣,放下一切成為耶穌的門徒,為祂作證,天主的福音便不會被傳揚;天主的福音不被傳揚,其他人又怎相信呢? 你有義無反顧地跟隨主耶穌基督嗎?你有勇於為主作證,介紹耶穌給身邊的人嗎? 這篇默想由生命恩泉文摘編輯小組撰寫,內容以下列文章為根據: Commentaries on the daily readings by Sacred Space, 聖安德肋宗徒(慶日). 9月21日是聖瑪竇宗徒慶日,你知道這日子對教宗方濟各有什麼意義嗎?60年前的9月21日,16歲的他本來想跟同學出去慶祝,因當天是阿根廷的假期。但他卻到了他的堂區祈禱。他當時大概不知道9月21日是聖瑪竇——那位被看不起的稅吏,後來卻被選為宗徒——的慶日。當他到了聖堂,他看到一位不認識的神父。 教宗方濟各想不起當時跟他說了些什麼,或神父對他的回應,但他記得當天決定辦告解。 教宗在今年5月時曾跟一些人分享過:「我不知道為何那神父會在那兒,或我為什麼會渴望告解。但事實是,在那裡,有一位在等我。祂已等了我一段時間。當我告解過後,我覺得自己跟以前不同了。我聽到一把聲音。我確信自己要成為一位神父。」 教宗說:「我們一定要尋找天主,到祂那裡,尋求祂的寬恕。當我們走到那兒,會發覺祂已經在等候!」 就像耶穌召喚聖瑪竇去成為救恩的使者一樣,同一位天主召叫了少年貝爾格里奧去帶給人天主的慈愛和修和。天主也在召叫和等候我們每一位,你願意到祂那裡,領受那份愛和寬恕嗎?
