Reflection for the Second Sunday of Easter

Second Sunday of Easter If Judas was known by his betrayal of Jesus and Peter by his denial, then Thomas was in no lesser way to be known by his doubtfulness. To the majority of us, if we do not identify ourselves with Judas or Peter, we certainly have times finding ourselves to be like […]

Jesus said: “Whom are you looking for?”

The Mass of Easter Sunday When every dream in our lives seems to vanish and every expectation dashed, the sight of an empty tomb can be devastating. The fear within us can blindsight us from seeing the real meaning of the empty tomb. And we doubt whether we will survive our own Good Fridays. Looking […]

Obedience is the Best Proof

Jesus died on the cross. The way He died looked like a failure. He did not get down from the cross to prove Himself to be the Son of God. In fact, He said to His disciples in advance: “The prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over […]

Pope Francis: God wins precisely in failure

(CNA/EWTN News) In his general audience address on April 16, Pope Francis spoke on the meaning of suffering and evil, explaining that it is a mystery which finds its answer in the passion and death of Jesus, who endured it for each of us. “This week, it will do good for us all to look […]

Washing of the Disciples’ Feet

Why has Jesus done this now? The Apostles were to enjoy honor in the future. In order then that they may not exalt themselves one above the other, and say as they did before, “Who is the greatest” (Matt 18:1), nor be angry one against the other, He takes down the ambitions of them all, […]

Judas’ Betrayal

Our Lord then said to Judas, “That which you do, do quickly,” and the traitor this once obeyed his Master. For having received the sop, he started immediately on his work: “He then having received the sop, went immediately out.” And indeed he did go out, not only from the house in which he was, […]

Not my will but yours be done!

Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion “He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death.” (Phil 2:8) Have we ever contemplated what kind of sacrifice the Son of God offered to us by emptying Himself to be born in human likeness, taking the form of a slave? As Creator of all, He has […]

Live not in your grave

Fifth Sunday of Lent “Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.” (Romans 8:8) Living according to the flesh is like living according to one’s will and desires, focusing on one’s needs rather than others’. When we are so self-centred, we are trapped within our own self, our grave, and we will die. Jesus […]

(CNA/EWTN News) – In his weekly general audience on April 2, Pope Francis closed his catechesis on the sacraments by reflecting on the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony, noting that the marital couple is a unique example of divine love in the world. “Married couples carry out this vocation in a full and definitive communion of […]

The Living Water that Heals

This pool was one among many examples pointing to baptism, which was to purge away sin. First God created water for cleaning dirt from the body, and from those defilements according to the old covenant e.g. those from death, or leprosy. Afterwards infirmities were healed by water, as we read in today’s Gospel. This was […]

Satan’s four lethal doses of BLINDNESS injections

Fourth Sunday of Lent The sacrifice of the Son of God, Jesus Christ, has redeemed us from The Fall due to the original sin committed by Adam and Eve as a result of Satan’s first temptation. Throughout the ages, Satan has never stopped His vicious attack to break our restored relationship with our Heavenly Father. […]

Pope Francis: Holy Orders is a vocation of service

(CNA/EWTN News) In his weekly general audience on March 26, Pope Francis continued his catechesis on the Sacraments, devoting his discourse to those who receive Holy Orders, referring to it as a vocation of “service.” Emphasizing again the priest’s role as servant, the Pope expressed that their lives should be full “of passionate love for […]

Whom the heavens were not able to contain

The taking on of our flesh does not diminish anything from the transcendence of God, but instead exalts the lowliness of man’s nature. Hence it follows, “And he shall be called the Son of the Highest.” Not, “you shall give Him the name,” but “He Himself shall be called.” By none other than His Father […]

Come, children, come… I will give you living water…

Third Sunday of Lent Jesus revealed Himself as Christ for the first time in the Gospel of John, not to a Jew, but to a Samaritan woman. And the woman did not harden her heart but believed in Jesus. She left her water jar behind her and became the first one (or one of the […]

The Merciful Father of the Prodigal Son

In today’s Gospel, the Pharisees and scribes complained that Jesus often spend time with sinners. Jesus responded with the parable of the Prodigal Son. The parable shows that God is absolutely merciful. It does not matter how badly someone sins, he/she will be forgiven so long as their repentance is true. If […]

Pope to all fathers: Be for them as St. Joseph

(CNA/EWTN News) During his general audience on March 19, the feast of St. Joseph, Spouse of the Virgin Mary, Pope Francis called the saint a role model for all fathers and educators. “Let us look at Joseph as the model for educators, for he guards and accompanies Jesus in his journey of growth ‘in wisdom, […]

Call no man father

It is a difficulty that St. Paul against this command calls himself the teacher of the Gentiles (2 Tim 1:11); and that in monasteries in their common conversation, they call one another, Father. Jesus’ command is to be understood this way: it is one thing to be father or master by nature, another by obligation. […]

To risk or not to risk

Second Sunday of Lent Lenten season serves as an invitation to us to change. But changes are not always welcome in our comfortable lives. The greatest risk in our faith journey is to not take any risks, and to be too comfortable with the status quo. Yet, only under one condition should these risks be […]

Ask, Seek, and Knock

(本文以英文為準) When Jesus commanded not to give the holy thing to dogs, and not to cast pearls before swine, the hearer conscious of his own ignorance might say, “What do I have that is holy?” He therefore adds, “Ask, and you shall receive.” Asking, that we may get health of soul to fulfill […]

Hallowed be Thy Name

What should one see when observing those who truly believe in God? He would behold a way of life achieved through virtue and cleansed from all stain of sin, a life free from all suspicion of wickedness. Such life shines with prudence, dignity and discernment. It displays fortitude against the attacks of evil passions, being […]

We are just human…

First Sunday of Lent We as human are often times not content to be just human. We desire to be bigger, we want to be God. That makes room for Satan to take over our lives. Satan uses beautiful but deceptive words to lure and trap us. During the Temptation […]
