Radiance and Joy

On the surface, being joyful sounds easy, especially in this Christmas and New Year’s season.

The road to Peace, starting this Christmas

At Christmas, Jesus comes down to earth in the night, like a little flame piercing through the darkness. He is the Prince of Peace, coming into the world that so desperately needs Him.

Our Zeal for God Is Consuming Us!

Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time “My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord my God” (Psalm 63:2). Gentle in tone and unadorned in expression, the human yearning for God, as reflected in the antiphon of this Sunday’s Responsorial Psalm, belies the zeal and vigour simmering deep in the psalmist’s heart. In fact, his longing for […]

Stay Awake!

Jesus said to his disciples: “Stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come. Be sure of this: if the master of the house had known the hour of night when the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and not let his house be broken into. So too, […]

Blinded by Worldly Glory

Jesus said: “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You pay tithes of mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier things of the law: judgment and mercy and fidelity. But these you should have done, without neglecting the others. Blind guides, who strain out the gnat and swallow the camel! “Woe […]

Reproaches to Unrepentant Towns

Jesus began to reproach the towns where most of his mighty deeds had been done, since they had not repented. “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty deeds done in your midst had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would long ago have repented in sackcloth and ashes. But […]

Happy are those who receive the Word with open hearts, they will have an abundance

Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time The seed is the word of God, Christ is the sower. Christ sows the seed to all grounds (to the hearts of all humanity). It is available and accessible to all, with no exception. The Word of God has the power to create, to teach, and heal. The Word of […]

Parting discourse from Jesus

Sixth Sunday of Easter In today’s gospel, let us connect ourselves with the heart of Jesus. In this very touching last supper discourse, before His Passion and filled with parting emotions, He poured out His heart unto His disciples (us). His immense love for us is evident, but with mixed emotions, because He knows very […]

Love God’s Commandments

Jesus said to his disciples: “As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. “I have told you this so that my joy might be in […]

Faith and Works

After speaking with certain Protestants, a Catholic may ask “Is it then enough to only believe in the Son, that one may have eternal life?” By no means. Hear Christ Himself declare this, and saying, “Not every one that says unto Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven” (Matt 7:21); and the […]

Cut it off!

Because the Lord had taught us not to offend those who believe in Him, He then warns us how much we should beware of those who offend us, that is, who by their words or conduct strive to drag us into the damnation of sin; wherefore He says, “And if your hand offend you, cut […]

Set our goal higher

Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time This week, let us continue to learn from Jesus the teaching of the Beatitudes. In the gospel readings of this past and this upcoming Sundays, Jesus raises the bar of six traditional moral standards of old, with the last one being the “harshest”–Love your enemies and pray for those who […]

Make the Wise Choice

Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time God has given us the freedom of choice. He allows us to choose Him, or to reject Him; to choose righteousness, or to choose evil. The temptations around us always attack us where we are weakest, luring us to choose evil as opposed to righteousness. As we find ourselves struggling […]

Are you salty and bright?

Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time We are all called to be salt of the earth and light of the world. This is the undeniable mission of every Christian on earth. We do not live for ourselves […]

The Duty of the Moment

Saturday of week 4 of Ordinary Time – Gospel In this Gospel reading, we read that after being sent on a mission by Jesus, the apostles gathered together with Him. The Seed that Grows by Itself

(本文以英文為準) From the parable of the sower, we heard about the three seeds which perished in various ways, and the one which was saved; in which Jesus also shows three differences, according to the proportion of faith and practice. Here however, He puts forth a parable concerning only those who are saved. Therefore […]

The First Disciples

(本文以英文為準) John was the friend of the Bridegroom; he sought not his own glory, but bore witness to the truth. And therefore he wished not his disciples to remain with him, to the hindrance of their duty to follow the Lord; but rather showed them whom they should follow, saying, “Behold the Lamb […]

Salvation and Rejection

Who are those who say to Christ, “We have eaten and drunk in Your presence, and You have taught in our streets?” Such an assertion would suit the Israelites, to whom Christ also said, “you shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves cast […]

The True Source of Greatness

In today’s Gospel, we read that a woman called out to praise Jesus, she said: “Blessed is the womb that carried you and the breasts at which you nursed.” That was a tribute to Jesus but also to His mother. Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross

The figure of the bronze serpent has the appearance of the beast, but not its poison; in the same way Christ came in the likeness of sinful flesh, being free from sin. Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees

Today and for the following two days, we read of the seven “Woes” that Jesus said against the Pharisees and scribes. Today’s Gospel covers the first three. Jesus first accused them: “You lock the Kingdom of heaven before men. You do not enter yourselves, nor do you allow entrance to those […]

Feast of St. Bartholomew, Apostle

Today, the Church celebrates the feast of St. Bartholomew. In the Gospel of John, he was called Nathanael.
