Pope Francis: Christians must put their relationship with Jesus above all else

(CNA/EWTN News) On Sunday, Pope Francis said that everyone – lay or religious – must put their relationship with Jesus above all else; and striving to do this, even imperfectly, will help them to be like Christ to the world. “People need to perceive that for that disciple, Jesus is truly ‘Lord,’ he is truly […]

(CNA/EWTN News) At his weekly general audience on September 17, Pope Francis spoke on what it means to evangelize, calling it apostolic work born of an encounter with Christ rather than lifeless efforts from the self-appointed “elect.” Pope Francis offered catechesis to those gathered in the square, reflecting on the words “catholicity” and “apostolic.” The […]

Stay Awake!

Jesus said to his disciples: “Stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come. Be sure of this: if the master of the house had known the hour of night when the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and not let his house be broken into. So too, […]

Pope Francis: Look for Jesus, meet Jesus: this is the great treasure

(CNA/EWTN News) On Sunday July 27 Pope Francis stressed the priceless value of encountering Jesus, noting that Jesus’ parables speak of those who are willing to trade everything for the Kingdom of God. “He who knows Jesus, who encounters him personally, remains fascinated and attracted by so much kindness, so much truth, so much beauty, […]

Parable of the New and Old Treasure

Blessed are the followers of Christ

Today’s gospel reading is in the chapter containing the parables of the Kingdom. After having spoken of the reasons why he taught in parables, Jesus told his disciples how privileged they were. “Blessed are your eyes, because they see, and your ears, because they hear.” And he continued, “Many prophets and righteous people […]

Pope Francis: The Church is a family that teaches us to live as disciples of the Lord

(CNA/EWTN News) In his general audience address on June 25, Pope Francis drew attention to how God formed the Church to unify humanity, emphasizing that no one is saved on their own, but rather through the help of others. “Our identity is one of belonging. The Proof of Holiness

The Gift the world refuses to receive is ours to bring to the world

Pentecost Sunday This Sunday’s Gospel reading can be seen as a “rehearsal” for Jesus’ closest disciples to anticipate the coming of the Spirit to the early Christian community on Pentecost, which took place 50 days after Jesus’ resurrection as depicted in the first reading Acts 2:1-11. From the sequence of the words spoken by Jesus […]

Convicted by the Holy Spirit

Those whom the Holy Spirit convicts, Christ convicts also. Jesus then explains what the world would be guilty of: “Of sin, because they do not believe in Me.” He mentions this as the sin above all others, because while it remains, the others are retained; when it departs, the others are remitted. “Of righteousness because […]

Parting discourse from Jesus

Jesus and Abraham

(本文以英文為準) The worldly minds of the Jews are intent on the flesh only; they think only of Jesus’ age in the flesh: “Then said the Jews to Him, you are not fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?” that is to say, “Many ages have passed since Abraham died; and how […]

Jesus Christ, our God eternal

Our Lord expresses His meaning from today’s Gospel in the words, “You are of this world,” that is, you are sinners. All of us are born in sin; all have added by our actions to the sin in which we were born. The misery of the Jews then was, not that they had sin, but […]

Children of God

Cut it off!

The Leaven of the Pharisees

(本文以英文為準) The Lord indeed abandons the Pharisees, as men uncorrected; for where there is a hope of correction, it is right to remain; but where the evil is incorrigible, we should go away. There follows: Now they had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in their ship with them more than one […]

Jesus’ Compassion for the Hungry

Saturday of week 5 of Ordinary Time – Gospel In this Gospel reading, we come across the multiplication of the loaves and fishes again. This is the second of the two such miracles recorded in Mark. Last time, it was the disciples who first asked Jesus to dismiss the crowd, […]

Are you salty and bright?

Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time We are all called to be salt of the earth and light of the world. This is the undeniable mission of every Christian on earth. We do not live for ourselves […]

Parable of the Sower

From Flickr © madison.murphy (本文以英文為準) Jesus comes to us because we could not enter heaven, our sins fencing us out from the entrance. And for what purpose? To destroy the ground teeming with thorns? To take vengeance upon the unfaithful stewards? No; but to till and tend it, and to sow the word […]
