聖彌額爾總領天使瞻禮

默示錄 12:7-12

聖彌額爾的名字的意思是：誰相似天主？面對邪惡，當魔鬼的惡意似乎得逞時，這名字提醒我們沒有任何困難比天主的愛更大。聖彌額爾是我們緊急時可以請求的援助。教宗良十三世撰寫了一篇祈求聖彌額爾的禱文，當我們覺得力有不逮或面對誘惑時，讓我們懇求聖彌額爾把魔鬼擊退：

War broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels battled against the dragon. The dragon and its angels fought back, but they did not prevail and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. The huge dragon, the ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, who deceived the whole world, was thrown down to earth, and its angels were thrown down with it. Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: "Now have salvation and power come, and the Kingdom of our God and the authority of his Anointed. For the accuser of our brothers is cast out, who accuses them before our God day and night. They conquered him by the Blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; love for life did not deter them from death. Therefore, rejoice, you heavens, and you who dwell in them."

On September 29, the Archdiocese of Toronto celebrates the feast of St. Michael the Archangel, patron of our Archdiocese. St. Michael is one of the seven archangels, and is also known to be the leader of all the archangels. In today's second reading, St. John wrote in Revelation: "War broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels battled against the dragon. The dragon and its angels fought back, but they did not prevail and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. The huge dragon, the ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, who deceived the whole world, was thrown down to earth, and its angels were thrown down with it. The name Michael signifies "Who is like God?" In the face of evil, when the devil's plan seems to prevail, this name reminds us that there is no difficulty greater than God's love. St. Michael is the help available to us at times of emergency. Pope Leo XIII composed the Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel. When we feel overwhelmed or struggle with temptations, let us ask for St. Michael's help to defeat Satan:
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the Divine Power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
